Splosion Man – Review – Xbox 360

With the return of XBLA’s “Summer of Arcade” comes its first installment ” ‘Splosion Man”. The title was released on July 22nd by the same creators who brought you “The Maw”. This fast paced, old-school platform game is hilarious and highly addictive, once you play. The main character can do just 2 things, run, and ‘splode! No jumping allowed, but you must time your blasts (maxed out at 3 at a time, then a brief rest) well to interact with objects such as walls and jars of goo making you go faster and farther than normal.

While escaping the laboratory, you will find robots and laser turrets to stop you, but the best, and funniest I might add, are the scientists that explode into chunks of quivering meat. Finding pieces of cake is an extra challenge that is included in each fun filled level. When you are able to escape the level you are scored based on time and other factors.

Multi-player is also in the game, which is a little different that solo. Local multi-player is easier, due to the fact you need to time your blasts with your partner to get further in the levels. Playing with a partner on XBL will no doubt be much tougher of a challenge.

The price has remained at affordable 800 MS points, that I think you will find reasonable for the enjoyment that can be had while playing. It will not be a 6-8 hour play through, but you can and will have hours of fun going back and replaying levels.
