Trials HD – Review – Xbox 360

Faceplants, flips, high altitudes, explosions, tons of swearing, and 1200 points, sounds like a night out with the guys, though it also describes the new game from Red Lynx.

Gameplay: This Side-scrolling third-person racing game pits you against time, obstacles, and the bike to complete short levels. Each level you can choose the motorcycle to attempt the level. The levels consist of hills, ramps, explosions, and TONS of broken bones. Your controls consist of the triggers (A and X also) being gas and brake, and left stick or D-Pad to move the bike. The bike flows naturally so if you are speeding up a hill, it will more then likely lean backwards as you reach the crest. Overcompensating for this will cause you to definitely crash. To avoid this you need to either slow down or try and angle the bike (with the stick or d-pad) to a safe landing position. Most of the time you can do either, but if you have gone full throttle from the beginning, you are bound to wreck quickly and painfully. At each level’s end, you receive a medal based on how quickly you finish the level. There are 5 tiers of difficulty, with 7 different tracks. Difficulties range from Beginner to EXTREME. The controls are a little touchy. I found myself switching between the Stick and The D-Pad because I kept wanting to push up or down instead forward or back. You may retry a level as many times as you want and it gives you the option to start over, or from a checkpoint if you made it that far.

Sound: What better way to start your engines then with a steady beat, no really known music for it, as in there arent songs, but it has a techno beat going throughout the levels. The Whir of the dirtbike and explosions make up the rest of the sounds.

Achievements: Being an Arcade game, it has 12 achievements for 200 points. most of them have to do with completing levels with certain conditions. There is even one for crashing for the first time!

Overall: If you really want a game that makes you work for the achievements, that takes a little skill to master. this is the game for you. I do enjoy trying to beat the levels even though I really SUCK at it. The game takes a little getting used to, but as you progress, you will get used to it!
