Zuma's Revenge Review

Zuma fans rejoice a sequel to the ever popular game has arrived. Are you excited? I know I was when I heard the announcement that PopCap Games was going to release Zuma’s Revenge. As in all sequels some games can fail to meet the originals greatness and in others it seems that the game has matured. Zuma’s Revenge follows the later; this game exceeds the original in many aspects. The game includes new power-ups like Lightning, levels and new to the series Boss Battles. When you first load the game you see the Zuma frog sitting atop a raft floating in the sea with what seems a treacherous storm all around. Then the clouds break and you see an island that other than the giant volcano atop its highest peak seems very inviting. When you land a tiki idol seems very displeased that you have visited and thus starts the game.
When you first start you notice how pretty the game looks and notice the effects the new power-ups have. As in the original you are required to make balls of the same color group into threes making them disappear and your line of balls shorter. The idea is to rid yourself of this line a thus complete the level. You need to complete this before a single ball reachs the end of the line which resembles a skull. If it makes that far you will lose a life and have to restart the level over. Once you start adventure mode you can blast through the first 30 or so levels without losing a life once. But once you reach level 40 it gets pretty intense as the balls move faster and faster with every level. When you complete 10 levels you get to fight a Tiki Boss and I found that they weren’t very hard to defeat but you must beat them to progress. As I played I noticed the levels later on in the game were a bit more challenging than in the original Zuma.
The Controls are the same as in the original just point and click where you want the ball to go and the levels have pretty much the same layout as in the original. I did find that some levels later on were a bit too hard and required luck more than skill to complete. The one thing I noticed is that when I lost I was frustrated but I wasn’t mad. Losing a level didn’t make me want to quit but rather continue playing and try again. Overall Zuma’s Revenge is a great game and great addition to the series and I think everyone who loved to original should pick it up and to those who have never played Zuma you can download the trial on the PopCap Games website.
