Preview: Divinity II Ego Draconis

Divine Divinity was a game released in 2002 for the PC It didn’t release to the high profile fanfare that games such as Half-life or Warcraft would have but it did develope enough of a following to warrant itself a sequel. This sequel dubbed Divinity II: Ego Draconis is being brought stateside by CDV Software Entertainment and is developed by Larian Studio.
Divinity II sets you in the role of a Dragon Slayer set to protecting the lands from the dragons and there minions, dubbed the Dragon Knights. You level your character in the fashion of many other popular RPG’s on the market with some notable exceptions. The game provides a classless skill system where you can create the ultimate tailor made character, the ability to create creatures from the dismembered limbs and body parts you come across as you kill foes. You even get the chance to play as a dragon. There are not many games that give you the chance to reign destruction as one and the possibilities are endless.
The gameplay is from a 3rd person perspective much like any other and finds your character entering a village with the task of graduating from your apprentice level and becoming a full fledged Dragon Slayer, you must meat up with a women who installs in you the memories of the dragons which are required in order to slay them. She informs you that you will loose all the abilities and training you have learned from the past years but do to your subconscious memory retention they should return quickly. This is how you career as a dragon slayer starts. Once you have gone through the process and recieve your “Dragon Eyes” you are now able to see the spectral world.
Before leaving the village you are tasked with talking to several characters in the village with the ability to bestow upon you the powers of either magic, swords, or archery. While you can only choose one upon leaving the village it is insinuated that you can change that mastery at later times. You will also receive the ability to read minds. Reading minds costs 1xp every time you attempt it whether it is successful or not and lends plenty of game mechanics and possibilities to your adventures. Once you have left the village your informed of attacks on some provinces by the Dragons ad will have to take the final steps of your training at a later time. I wont spoil the rest of the demo for you so just go try it yourself. It is available right now for PC and Xbox 360.
Divinity II: Ego Draconis will release on January 5th for both PC and Xbox 360.
