Divinity II Ego Draconis – Review – Xbox 360
Divinity II Ego Draconis is the sequel to Divine Divinity a much forgotten PC game released in 2002 by Larian Studios. What starts off as a game with much potential and seemingly great plot eventually turns into a mediocre experience that some will enjoy and some will not.
Story:
Divinity II takes place in Rivellon a fantasy world like many others you may have visited. You are tasked at the beginning of the game to become the next Dragon Slayer. Like many other fantasy RPG’s you find yourself in a large detailed world with plenty of people to interact with. While you start the game as a dragon slayer you eventually become a dragon knight. Becoming that which you seek to destroy. This turn of events allows you to change between a dragon and your human form and aside from the mind reading is one of the standout features of the game. Overall you can tell that the developers spent most there time on quest design and music because the story is rather bland throughout.
Gameplay:
The gameplay while decent is nothing special and except from the ability to be a dragon doesn’t really standout as anything more then your standard fantasy genre game. On top of that the classless skill progression featured in Divinity II takes away pretty much any significance in choosing one of the three classes available to you during the first part of the game. It pretty much just comes down to which types of weapon you want to use.
Graphics:
As I was running this on a lower end laptop during the review I can not comment much to the graphics. They looked colorful and bright when needed andwhile not top tier graphics they are able to hold there own in the world of fantasy RPG’s.
Overall:
Divinity II is a tough cookie to crack. On one end the music and quest design is top notch and can sometimes deceive you into thinking you are playing a great game. But then you have to remember the story and listen to the poor voice acting and it reminds you that while this game can be enjoyable it does not reach greatness and will most likely end up as the previous game in the series. Mediocre and after a few months forgotten.
Pros:
- Being a dragon is cool
- Awesome music
- Good Quest design
Cons:
- Poor story
- Graphics don’t stand out
- Poor voice acting
- The Xbox 360 Version has some save game glitchs that are irritating
