Dragon Age Origins Awakening – Review – Xbox 360

The muchly anticipated DLC for DA: O has finally come out. Will there be order amongst chaos?  Who will fill the void to protect Ferelden from the darkspawn? Why are there Darkspawn still coming after the Archdemon was defeated? Will the Grey Wardens ever recover their once great order?

Story:  After the Archdemon died, the Grey Wardens start to rebuild the Country of Ferelden.  To the north,  lay Vigils Keep, The Blackmarsh, Kal’ Hirol, and Amaranthine .   Soon, the people of the Arling of Amaranthine notice that there are darkspawn popping up around it.  The Wardens take the Vigil’s Keep and build it into their fortress.  They decide to wipe out the enemy and find out where it is coming from,.

Gameplay:  The game is a stand-alone disk or you can also download it for 3200 MSP.  For an add-on, the game  gives you over 40 missions, 8 more characters, and brings back familiar faces, in Oghren and Wynne.  The game continues to be a third-person freestyle RPG.  There is a small amount of lag between the time you press the action button, though I am not sure if it was intentionally added.  The game allows a 4 character party in most situations.  You have 2 radial menus that give you the chance to create some potions, runes, change into different animals, and use powers to aid you in battle.  The battles are basically who can mash the A button the most, within a period of time.  It sometimes gets a little hectic, thank god for the health poultrices (potions).   Some of the characters that are available are Elves, Dwarves, and Human races.  There are 3 classes that you can be; Rogue, Mage, and Warrior.  There still is limited space that you can carry with you at a time. Depending on what you brought over from DA: O or what you started with in the beginning, it gets better with time.

Graphics/sound: One of the characters, as punishment, gets trapped in a dead person’s body. To show this, Bioware  gave him a cool looking X-Ray type body, only some of the time anyway, the other is a normal Human.  Blood spatters are once again prevalent and stay on the characters for a pretty long time.  Wynne and Oghren both keep the same people that did their voices.
