Maestro! Green Groove – Review – Nintendo DSi

From the creators of Create-A-Bear Workshop and Mad Tracks for the Wii, comes a new version of the Maestro series.

Story: You play as Presto a music-loving bird.  One day the villain of the game, Staccato, decides that the world would be better off without music and turned all of the birds mute.  its your job to defeat Staccato, and restore the music of the world.

Gameplay: The game is a side-scrolling, music rhythm game. You use the stylus to move along the strings of an instrument.  You have to make it through the levels by strumming the instrument at the correct time. when you pass the highlighted string, it will give you 1 of 4 different things, a blue note, a gold note, a red enemies, and green bird.  If you get too many red enemies they will gang up on you and the level will be over.  You will have to get a B+ or better on the ranking screen to move onto the next level.  There are about 20 levels.  By getting Golden/blue notes and picking up fruits scattered around the level you get a better grade.  The green birds clear the red enemies away.  You have 3 different single player modes; Adventure, tracklist, and free play.  Adventure is story mode, Tracklist is a place where you can listen to the music of the game that you have unlocked so far, and Free Play is just what it sounds, a mode where you can go through the levels and fool around, not trying to get the target score.

Graphics/Sounds: Overall the graphics look like any other game. you cannot move backwards and Presto moves automatically. The sounds are pretty sing-song and joyful.  There are no voice actors and they use sound effects for the characters

Multiplayer: There is none

Overall: This game is a little irritating trying to redo the levels over and over again. Though if you liked games such as Patapon, DDR, Guitar Hero, or Parappa the Rapper, this could be your game!

Pros:

  • Cool storyline
  • nice songs
  • crisp graphics/music

Cons:

  • above average price
  • gets tiring redoing the levels if you are bad at Rhythm games

Score: 6 out of 10
