Blazblue: Continuum Shift – Review – Xbox 360

Blazblue Continuum Shift is a fighting game of epic proportions. As soon as you load the game up and hit the main menu you are greeted with about 6 choices for gameplay, including online play, and the ability to record and watch a match you’ve played. You know right then and there that this game is going to be awesome. Blazblue Continuum Shift that was developed by Arc System Works and was published by Aksys Games.

Gameplay: Since I have I haven’t played very many fighting games in the past and haven’t played any of the previously released BlazBlue games. I can only approximate the description of this game compared to another fighter. To me this game plays a lot like Marvel vs Capcom. The game is very fast paced and includes the ability to use super moves. The flow of combat is pretty good and can play quickly or slowly depending on how you play. I can say in Arcade mode the AI adjusts to your level of play and I found that pretty interesting.

Story: In story mode you follow a character in the game through a really weird story about them. Ghosts, Pink Tuna, and people falling from the sky are just the tip of the ice burg. I won’t say much more because it is really funny and off the wall. The only downside I found while playing during story mode are the breaks in action. You play one fight then watch the story for anywhere between 15 and 30 mins.

Graphics: This is what really makes this game special. The graphics are really fantastic and are what set this game apart from a lot of fighters. Each character’s sprite was hand drawn. Every movement, special move, and taunt are done with precision. The background of each level also carries this special attention and I can honestly say this is one of the best looking fighting games I’ve seen in a long time. While playing it feels almost like you’re watching a piece of anime on the tv.

Multiplayer: Multiplayer plays the same as arcade mode except your opponent is a real person. The gameplay online is very smooth depending on your internet speed. I found out pretty quickly some people are amazing at this game.

Overall: In all honesty I don’t play a lot of fighting games but I can say after playing this one for about a week that might change. The game looks and play great. If you are new to the fighting genre this would be a great time to get involved as this game includes a tutorial mode that gets you prepared for the game.
