Hole In The Wall – Review – Xbox 360
Based off a TV show that is produced in 20 different countries and called many names, such as Hole In the Wall, Brain Wall, Human Tetris, 动洞墙, جدار جبار, and El Muro, comes the Kinect’s newest XBLA game, Hole In the Wall!
Gameplay: As the TV show was played, two teams of two competed against each other to contort their bodies into the shapes that are on a wall that is zooming towards you and you must scramble to fit through or be knocked into the Fail Pool. There are eight walls per round, there are four rounds per show, and three shows in the game. Kinect allows you to see yourself on screen as a shadow and will turn from red (bad) to yellow (good) as you work quickly to make the shape shown on the screen. You have about a minute to make and hold the position while your gauge around the screen fills up, if you fail to make the shape, or fill the bar, you gain an X, three X’s in a round, and you fail the match. If you fail the match you will have to redo the whole game as there isn’t a checkpoint system. At some points the game is quite difficult as you race to make the shape if you do not have that much space to work with. They have a Survival Mode that is “Sudden Death” you make as many shapes as possible without failing.
Graphics/Sound: The game board is a simple game show type setup. You play as your avatar, in a Spandex suit and can win an avatar award letting you wear the gear! There are pictures on the walls to show why you are making the said shape. Things such as a baseball player, person painting a picture. The Kinect sensor has problems at times recognizing your movement, you could be in a correct shape, but it will not read it so you would have to reposition yourself so it will, causing you to possibly get an X for taking too long.
Multiplayer: There is up to four player local co-op. The team that creates the most shapes at the end of the round wins.
Overall: I would recommend this game if you have little kids, liked watching the TV show associated with the game, want to have a couple laughs, or want a fun party game for all ages. There isn’t a story behind it, except its a TV show game. Its pretty fun!
Pros:
- Fun for all ages
Cons:
- No online multiplayer
- Difficult at times
- Positioning problems?
Overall Score: 8 out of 10
