Call of Duty: Black Ops – Rezurrection Map Pack – Review – Xbox 360

It seems like the final Call of Duty: Black Ops Map Pack has released in Rezurrection. Containing four maps previously only available in World At War or if you ordered the Hardened or Veteran editions of Black Ops, a new zombies map, Moon, along with a theme, and the complete zombies soundtrack.

Nacht der Üntoten is the original zombies map, its very basic but that can be a good thing. All you really have to do is get to the weapons room and then go upstairs and camp. The easiest out of all the maps for a legitimate reason, after all you have to start somewhere. It was fun to play again, but with the Black Ops zombies maps and the remade World At War maps, you really won’t play this more than once or twice.

Verrückt takes place in a reimagined version of the World At War multiplayer map Asylum. This is the first map that contained Perks and that adds a lot of replayability and challenge to the map. This is really where the modern day zombies got their roots, it does however lack the Pack-A-Punch. With a good amount of areas to explore and camp at, there can be many strategies, which makes it a lot more fun. Since there were no wonder weapons at the time, Treyarch implemented Winter’s Howl from Five which is okay, but not the best. We had a good amount of fun on this map and it’s certainly one of the easiest zombies maps to date.

Shi No Numa takes place in a swamp and is relatively symetrical. The camping spots are pretty obvious as four arms extend out of the center of the map. Basically pick one, and hole up for the rest of the match, not much strategy to it. The Wunderwaffe makes its first appearance which truly helps as zombies seem to come from everywhere. The addition of deep water makes things a little more difficult for you as the zombies arnt slowed down unlike you who moves noticeably slower. Strangely the beam of light that emanates from the box is green in this one, making it blend in with the environment, it can be annoying but nothing huge.

Der Riese is the last World At War map, and the first to feature the Pack-A-Punch. This is a typical zombies map, however there is one big difference. Dogs are back, and as usual they appear every five to seven rounds. However, after about three rounds of this, they spawn with zombies and will not drop a max ammo afterwards. So be prepared, some of the higher caliber players rely on this to keep the ammo flowing in.

Moon is the new zombies experience out of the entire pack. It obviously takes place on the moon featuring many new factors not familiar to the zombies realm. The Hacker makes things easier for you, you can transfer money to allies, fix windows in one going, open doors for cheaper, even share weapons out of the box with friends. You have to actually be careful with explosives, lest you blow out a window and decompress the room, meaning you can’t take off your helmet and even more importantly, can’t hack anything.

Treyarch was smart enough to try and throw a couple of wrenches in your plans this time through two seperate things. First the astronaut zombie, which is named as a player on the host’s friends list in an attempt to confuse you. It takes a whole lot of bullets and rayguns to put down so team effort is required. Upon death the zombie explodes sending everything around him flying, but it doesn’t give off damage. What happens if this slow lumbering zombie catches you you ask? It simply headbutts you, makes you a one hit down, and teleports you to a random part of the map. The second wrench is the Pack-A-Punch which is oh so conveniently located back on earth with that unending horde of zombies to deal with. The problem isn’t getting their, as you can bring the hacker down with you and enclose you and your buddies for 30 seconds to do what you need to do. But then the doors open, and an entire zombie horde swarms the location. We were downed in about 15 seconds. Good luck trying to figure out a way to get this to work.

In short, Rezurrection is worth the money if you never played the World At War maps but other than that, you really arn’t getting much for $15. Sure Moon is a lot of fun, and the mystery is one of the best to date, it really isn’t worth that much alone. Remember that if you previously got a code for the World At War maps on Xbox 360, the rest will be free.

Pros:

  • Moon is different than any other zombies map.
  • Cool new wonder weapon.
  • We dig the new grenades.

Cons:

  • Expensive if you already played all the World At War maps.
