Hauppauge! HD PVR Gaming Edition – Review – Hardware

When it comes to choosing the right capture card for your gaming needs the choices are almost endless. Weeding out the good from the bad can be difficult however. Many capture cards are simply that and nothing more, you’ll get your gameplay, but the text won’t be legible, the graphics only standard definition. Well Hauppauge! put out a gaming version of their HD PVR which comes specially equipped with everything you will need to get the best results possible.

The HD PVR speaks for itself. It has a lot of cords which can make it hard to easily transport, but the quality makes it worth it. With no frame rate or audio lags you will get what you paid for. The videos below demonstrate how high of a quality the video and audio is. Make sure to switch it over to 1080p HD for the best visuals possible.

The video editing software can be finicky, but it records the video as it should. There is other software out there if this doesn’t satisfy your needs. The software also gives you the option to set what console you are recording on, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, or a generic video. We found that even though we were on an Xbox 360 we had to record in the Playstation 3 format to get rid of the audio delay.

The System Requirements are as follows:

  • Processor Requirements (minimum): Dual core CPU 2.0GHz or faster
  • Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit), Windows Vista or Windows XP service pack 2 (32-bit)
  • Graphics with 256MB memory (or greater)
  • Sound card
  • CD-ROM drive for installing the HD PVR software

Overall, this is probably what any hardcore gamer is looking for when it comes to capture cards. The price may be a bit higher than most other cards but this shows in the quality. If a reliable, delay free capture card is what you want then the HD PVR is for you. You can find details on the Hauppauge! HD PVR on their website such as where to buy it for $199.99.
