Assassin’s Creed: Revelations: Mediterranean Traveler Map Pack – Review – Xbox 360
The first map pack for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is out and we’ve had a chance to play all of them! Three new maps (Jerusalem, Constantinople, and Dyers) join three returning maps from Brotherhood (Florence, San Donato, and Siena).
Siena returns basically unchanged with the predominant form of combat coming from stealth. With pretty much nowhere to hide, it’s basically hit and run combat. Find your target and track him down as quickly as possible and then scurry away before anyone notices. It’s a frantic escapade through the party environment, while worrying about your life the entire time.
Florence (Firenze) plays out just like it did in Brotherhood. The rooftops are where people like to hang out, but they leave you completely in the open. Figuring out how to take out the enemies without revealing yourself is a huge challenge. The hunted typically have the advantage because of the many sharp angles around the map. All it takes is to lose sight of your target and it’s as good as gone.
San Donato takes place in a relatively open map. Attempting to stay in cover while moving around the map quickly is not easy. The middle serves as chokepoint that people rarely like to venture in. The rooftops as always are a popular choice but leave you open to a ranged attack.
Jerusalem is set during Altair’s time around a bazaar in the middle of a town square. Most of the time, combat is relatively simple, making this the worst map in the pack. It’s hard to come by a game where the combat isn’t narrowed down to all the assassin’s standing on the top of the bazaar tents trying to avoid going near other assassins while going after their target at the same time.
Imperial District plays a lot like Firenze, with most assassin’s choosing to chill on the rooftops rather than prowl the streets. However, things can get crazy in a hurry. Many multi-person chases often break out forcing you to make the choice between getting a kill or saving your own hide.
Dyers is one of the most unique maps in the pack. With a similar bazaar feeling, but little verticality inside the center of the map. Most players choose to blend into the environments around them rather than stand on the roofs and that serves as a refreshing change of pace.
Unfortunately, these maps have their own dedicated playlist, which isn’t exactly fully populated. You will end up playing with the same people over and over again, which can be good and bad. However, the skill level in this playlist is obviously much higher since mostly the hardcore fans of the multiplayer buy the DLC.
Pros:
- Maps are gorgeous as always.
- Interesting new locales
- Siena is still beautiful and fun to play on
Cons:
- Only playable in a dedicated playlist.
Score: 8 out of 10
